If you grew up watching science fiction movies, then you may be a tiny bit skeptical of AI (yes, this is the proper abbreviation, I looked it up). These fears are misplaced at the moment. The computer world is sophisticated but not that sophisticated. I Robot is still a thing of the far future.
For these machines to be intelligent, they must think on their own. People learn from their interaction with the physical world through senses, interpretation, perception, memory, evaluation, experience and connections of events. We can make predictions of future outcomes by the choices we make. Humans can set goals and obtain them. We can visualize things not present and understand language.
Machines have difficulties performing certain human tasks. However, technology is improving. If we input information into a database, then that database will become the source for running that computer algorithm. The machine improves its abilities automatically through the experience of repeatedly running the algorithm. If data is left out of the initial foundation of data, then the computer has no way of obtaining that missing data. The machine is as strong as the data entered into the database. Machine learning is the act of the machine utilizing its programmed database to run algorithms repeatedly until it gets a correct answer. It is designed to look for patterns within the data.
One advantage a computer has over humans is the ability to recognize patterns in a broader context. I believe part of reality is a complex series of patterns. The ability to recognize patterns provides an interpretation of events and a relatively successful prediction of future outcomes. The dependent variable is the ability of the observer to recognize the patterns.

Deep learning is as close to human thinking as a computer can become. It employs a neural network similar to the human brain. It is an approach to develop machine learning a step further. The attempt is to make computers “think” beyond their initial programming. Deep learning requires an immense amount of computing power and graphics processing. Visual input and natural language processing are necessary to respond appropriately and hold a conversation. Engaging in fluid verbal exchanges of ideas and thoughts sets humans apart from machines. The profound conversation is not a canned response.
If Sophia the robot is the most advanced AI, then it is clear why we should not be afraid. In my opinion, the following is an example of why the fear of artificial intelligence is unfounded at the moment.
Artificial intelligence has been a part of our lives for quite some time. Google Maps, Waze, Grab and GoJek help us get around town in fast and efficient ways. AI helps teachers search for plagiarism in their students’ writings and grade standardized exams. AI works with banks on fraud prevention and mobile banking.
AI is woven into the fabric of social media apps. Face recognition is a prime example. This technology identifies people in uploaded photos. Online shopping uses AI for recommendations based on the data collected from the browser history. The smart home and voice assistance use AI. When looking into where artificial intelligence plays a role in the modern age, it is easy to see that it is already here.
